HOUSTON, Texas – A Houston non-profit organization offers assistance to homeowners in danger of foreclosure.
Money Management International (MMI), the nation’s largest non-profit full-service credit counseling agency is lending a hand to homeowners in distress.
The organization is offering tools and financial education resources to help fight foreclosure and ensure that homeowners do not lose their properties.
As the economy continues along its slump, more and more homeowners are finding themselves in financial hardship. Even though the recent foreclosure scandal with lenders last fall helped to slow down the process at which homes are foreclosed on, the rate of property seizure remains alarming.
“Our nation’s foreclosure crisis continues to be one of the most damaging aspects of the current down economy,” said Kim McGrigg, community manager for MMI. “Losing a home is more than a financial issue; it is one of the most scary and emotionally draining experiences a family can face. The far reaching impact can be felt well into the future. At MMI, we’re using our years of experience to help families fight back against foreclosure.”
MMI’s certified financial counselors have been approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and are ready to assist homeowners in finding a way to manage their loans and prevent the foreclosure of their properties.
The counselors at MMI can also help homeowners who wish to apply for the Emergency Homeowner’s Loan Program (EHLP), a program implemented by HUD to help homeowners who have experienced a 15 percent or more drop in income.
Those who are eligible must apply by July 22.
